10% of the world’s population lived in cities in 1900, 50% is now living in cities today and 75% is an estimate for the year 2050.

Ever since men first learnt to use tools, the same ambition has driven the construction of countless buildings to display power and strength. Cities are superior than all other areas of the world that people are competing to move into there. Yet, problems become more concentrated in such over-developed confined spaces, stimulating the psyche of lives in the cities - alienation, apathy, indifference, disconnection, and solitude.

The project aims to reflect such developing process “In Aggregate”. It is an interactive installation which allows visitors involving in the creation process as well as being part of the work. The appearance of the work will be changing according to the participation of each visitor’s intention - this responds to the human ambitions in developing the city.

Each visitor can design a pair of clogs by fitting blocks on the bottom like playing Lego to make an urban layout, and step across anywhere upon the floral foam platform in a specific area inside the secret space to create patterns of blocks which associate with the urban development. Visitors are free to step over blocks created by previous visitors. The urban layout as a whole is changing from time to time. We will cast the pattern on the clay plates everyday to show the process.

The clogs, floral foam platform with urban layout created by the visitors and the visitors themselves are all parts of the work. The whole process will be documented by video and plaster cast. The video, plaster casts and clogs will become the documentation as well as a series of permanent artworks after the event.
